#FierceFemaleFriday - SOAR GSU

This week's #FierceFemales are these future Gramblinites!

I had the pleasure of speaking to the SOAR participants and SOAR staff leaders this past Tuesday evening during the "Sister-to-Sister" chat.

SOAR (Summer Orientation Advising and Registration) is a program created to assist high school students with a seamless transition into college life at Grambling State University.

What makes them fierce?

1. They selected the Top Historically Black College and University in the country, Grambling State University.   (I love my HBCU!)

2.  They showed so much passion for not just their education but they also understand the importance of working in the community and sharing their skills with others.

3.  They decided to get a head start on their first semester by attending the SOAR program, they weren't afraid to ask questions, and network with other young ladies.

Here are ten tips that I shared with the ladies that I feel will help them during their college years and beyond...
  1. PRAY!!!
  2. It’s okay to ask for help.
  3. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes.  Experience is the best teacher you’ll ever have.
  4. Make your passion or your long term goals a recurring theme.
  5. Be punctual for class, study, and participate.
  6. Build a working relationship with your instructors and other staff.
  7. Join organizations that promote good vibes.
  8. Remember the Rule of 12.
  9. Be comfortable in your own skin.
  10. Respect yourself and others will respect you.

We had a great time this week. I can't wait to see these young women SOAR during their time at GSU.

Good Luck ladies!!!

P.S.  Don't forget to strategically position yourself.  It works!  :)
