Obé (pronounced Obey) S.
Alexander is the Head of Product Strategy at Inergent. “We aim to build innovative solutions that
make the impossible possible, the possible routine, and the routine trivial. We
believe that our solutions should be available to everyone and that truly great
technology should work like magic!”
While working with
diverse IT teams it is imperative for leaders be cool under pressure. Obé possesses this trait all the while
providing dynamic IT strategic direction.
Obé
is originally from New Orleans, LA. When he’s not leading teams of IT
professionals, he enjoys cycling, photography, and history. He is also a member
of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, Inc.
What advice or words of wisdom would you give to individuals who
would like to enter the field of Information Technology?
I would advise anyone
considering IT and IT Leadership as a profession to ensure that the
day-to-day work is going to be rewarding and fulfilling for them. It can be
extremely financially rewarding, but in the beginning, it will take far more
computer interaction than human interaction. If you can’t picture yourself up
late nights with a laptop, pizza and mountain dew solving a problem that has
been stumping you for days, IT might not be the field for you.
What challenges or opportunities have you overcome to reach your
current level.
I would say that the
biggest challenge overall has been adapting to and embracing change. The IT
landscape is in a constant state of change and there is no way to be an expert
at everything. I realized as I progressed through my career, there would always
be points in time when some young whiz kid would be able to do a far better job
for less money and use the latest technology. Being mindful of how I had to
change as a professional to stay competitive has been a constant endeavor for
me. I also stay mindful of developing my non-technical skillset. As I went from
being an individual contributor, to team lead, to manager, to strategic leader,
I knew that I had to transition from a technology person who generally
understood business, to a business person who thoroughly understands
technology.
